Have you selected [Automatic] or [B & W] for the color mode in the scan settings?
Select [Automatic] or [B & W] for the color mode in the scan settings in the following procedure:

On the touch panel of the ScanSnap, select the profile that you are using from the profile list in the home screen.

Press the arrow at the bottom of the touch panel to display the scan settings.

Press the color mode icon and select [Automatic] or [B & W].
If an image in black & white is not created when [Automatic] is selected for the color mode, select [B & W].
When you scan a document with a profile that is configured to detect a document type automatically, display the scan window of ScanSnap Home on the computer and change the settings.
If you change the scan settings on the touch panel or in the scan window and scan a document, after it is scanned, the scan settings will return back to the settings before any changes were made. If you want to scan documents under the same settings all the time, the scan settings need to be saved as a profile.
