Have you selected [Automatic] or [Color] for the color mode in the scan settings?
Select [Automatic] or [Color] for the color mode in the scan settings in the following procedure:

Display the scan window of ScanSnap Home on the computer.

Select the profile that you are using from the profile list.

Click the color mode setting icon and select [Automatic] or [Color].
If an image in color is not created when [Automatic] is selected for the color mode, select [Color].
If you change the scan settings in the scan window and scan a document, after it is scanned, the scan settings will return back to the settings before any changes are made. If you want to scan documents under the same settings all the time, the scan settings need to be saved as a profile.
Is the color used in the document similar to black?
Images of documents using dark colors similar to black (e.g. dark green) may be created in black & white or gray.

Do the documents only have color around the edges?
Images of documents that have color only within 16 mm from the edges may be created in black & white or in gray.
